Aims – Training Component

Mentoring
Promote success of early stage community-engaged maternal and reproductive health equity investigators in multiple disciplines across the training continuum, including early career faculty, postdoctoral fellows, predoctoral students and undergraduates. This will be achieved through robust support by a team of academic and community mentors for researchers who are underrepresented in academic medicine or the health sciences through rigorous career development in a supportive, collegial environment.

Research Enrichment, Training, and Capacity Building
Provide maternal and reproductive health equity research, community-engaged praxis, public health practice, data transparency, and communication training and support for early career scholars and community health partners through enrichment programs including a pilot funded program, research program support, support for scientific and public health conference registration and travel, educational sessions, seminars, and research forums, and community outreach. Offerings will be focused on behavioral, clinical, community, and policy-level factors contributing to higher rates of pregnancy-related morbidity and mortality among Black populations. Through community outreach, we will promote a path forward for the next generation of community-engaged reproductive and health equity scholars and practitioners.

Community Integration
Expand and empathize community-based training that is focused on strengthening the reproductive and perinatal health workforce. This includes the further development of the Community Health Advocates Program, focused on supporting Black mothers and femmes interested in engaging in maternal and infant health issues in their communities.

Reproductive Health Equity and Justice Training
Promote equitable, high-quality maternal and reproductive health and wellness through reproductive justice, anti-racism, anti-oppression, and humanity-centered training to support a community-centered and culturally responsive workforce of clinicians, researchers, and community and organizational partners.
